What do freelance SEO specialists charge per hour in Malaysia?

The rate depends on the platform more than on any other single filter. freelancing.my profiles sit at a $7.36 median and PeoplePerHour profiles at $20, both drawn from Malaysian SEO profiles on the same day.

What do Malaysian SEO freelancers ask on Freelancer.com?

Freelancer.com listed 209 Malaysian profiles under its SEO skill on September 23, 2026. The first 50 in the Malaysia SEO directory ask a median of $12.50 an hour, with a spread from $2 to $350.

Reviews split the sample in two. Only 15 of the 50 profiles had a client review of any kind on the platform.

The 35 unreviewed profiles cluster at $10 an hour, and 21 of all 50 ask $10 or less. The 15 reviewed profiles start where the others stop.

Reviews do not guarantee a high rate. The most reviewed profile in the sample, with 240 reviews, lists $10 an hour, and the next, with 140, lists $30. One profile lists its rate in Singapore dollars: S$15, about $11.75 at Bank Negara rates.

Kuala Lumpur carries no premium in this sample. The 12 profiles that give Kuala Lumpur or one of its districts as their city have a $12 median, against $15 for the 38 elsewhere in Malaysia, from Johor Bahru to Kuching.

Are Guru and PeoplePerHour cheaper for SEO work in Malaysia?

Guru is the cheaper of the two by a wide margin. Its SEO directory filtered to Malaysia shows a $9.50 median across 50 profiles, and 14 of them list $5, the lowest rate in the sample. None of the 50 showed any earnings on Guru in the previous 12 months.

Guru ranks profiles by their top service listing, so the rate belongs to one service, not to the freelancer's whole offer. The same card shows a "Starting at" project price: $25 on 23 of the 50, and up to $2,000.

PeoplePerHour's Malaysia SEO search returned 48 Malaysian profiles with a $20 median. Its sample carries more work history than Guru's: 15 of the 48 show 20 or more completed projects.

Project count moves the PeoplePerHour rate less than reviews move it on Freelancer.com. The 15 profiles with 20+ projects have a $24 median, against $18 for the other 33.

What do SEO freelancers charge on freelancing.my?

Malaysian freelancers on freelancing.my ask a median of RM30 an hour, about $7.36. The site prices in ringgit and counted 5,425 profiles in total on September 23, 2026, of which 90 carry the SEO skill tag and 76 show an hourly rate.

Rates in that sample run from RM5 to RM100 an hour, with the 25th percentile at RM16.25. The tag is broad. Only 10 of the first 50 profiles with a rate put SEO in their job title; the rest are copywriters, web developers and digital marketers who list SEO as one skill.

Stated experience is the one field on freelancing.my that tracks the rate. Profiles with 6 or more years ask twice what those with 3 to 5 years ask.

The sample runs from a profile created on September 12, 2026 back to December 2024, since the site lists newest profiles first.

What did Upwork show for SEO experts in Malaysia?

Upwork's Malaysia SEO experts page featured 27 profiles with a $22 median when the Internet Archive captured it on December 1, 2024. Upwork blocks automated reading, and that is the only archived copy of the page.

The featured profiles lean toward proven freelancers: all 27 showed a job count, from 1 to 294, and a star rating. Ten had 20 or more jobs and a $24.50 median, against $20 for the other 17. Rates ran from $6 to $130, and only 3 of the 27 asked $10 or less.

Upwork's page predates the other samples by 21 months, so we kept it out of the pooled median.

How do Malaysian SEO salaries compare with freelance rates?

A salaried SEO specialist in Malaysia earns RM15 to RM31 an hour, depending on the source. JobStreet's salary page puts the typical monthly salary at RM3,800 to RM6,000, from employer-disclosed ranges in its job ads, refreshed September 1, 2026.

We converted each salary at 195 hours a month: the 45-hour weekly maximum set by the Employment (Amendment) Act 2022, times 52 weeks, over 12 months. A shorter real week would raise the hourly figure.

• JobStreet: RM3,800 to RM6,000 a month, or RM19.49 to RM30.77 an hour ($4.78 to $7.55).
• Glassdoor: the Malaysia SEO Specialist page showed an average base of about MYR 4,000 a month plus MYR 333 of additional pay on September 23, 2026. That is about RM22.22 an hour ($5.45). Glassdoor rounds the base to the nearest thousand.
• PayScale: its Malaysia page for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist shows an average base of RM34,834 a year from 21 salary profiles, last updated April 14, 2025. At 2,340 hours a year, that is RM14.89 an hour ($3.65).

An employer also pays into the retirement fund on top of salary. The EPF contribution table sets the employer's share at 13% for Malaysian employees earning RM5,000 or less, which adds RM494 to a RM3,800 monthly salary.
