Switzerland posted the highest figure of the 21 countries checked, CHF 96,204 a year, or $117,830. Only five Swiss SEO specialists had shared a salary with Glassdoor, so it sits outside the ranking.

#1 United States

US SEO specialists reported 3,524 salaries to Glassdoor, more than the other 20 countries checked put together (1,780). The estimate combines an average base of US$75k with US$12k of additional pay.

Pay rises with the job title. On the same Glassdoor United States page, SEO Analysts average $67K, SEO Consultants $76K and SEO Managers $112K.

The most popular employers on the page pay below the national figure. TopSpot Internet Marketing and Dealer Inspire both show a US$59k median total pay for the role, and CDK Global shows US$63k.

Two SEO Specialist job ads on the page, in Fairfax, Virginia and Austin, Texas, listed employer-provided ranges of US$75K to US$85K.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has no SEO job code. Its Occupational Outlook Handbook files search marketing strategists under market research analysts and marketing specialists, a group with a median wage of $78,760 in May 2025.

#2 Denmark

Pleo shows the highest median of the five employers on Glassdoor's Danish page, DKK 53k a month in total pay. Better Collective follows at DKK 45k, Casino Online at DKK 40k and DEPT at DKK 36k.

The national estimate is DKK 36,085 a month, built from a DKK 33k base and DKK 3k of additional pay. Only 17 salaries sit behind it, and the top of the range is flat: the 75th percentile is DKK 47,696 and the 90th DKK 48,446.

Danish pay reaches second place only through that monthly reading, so the Glassdoor Denmark page is worth opening before quoting it. Its base pay panel and all five employer figures show "/mo".

#3 Israel

Israel has the most stretched top end in the ranking. Its 90th percentile, ₪54,982 a month, works out to $216,081 a year, far above the US 90th percentile of $146,711.

Fiverr shows a ₪21k monthly median, the highest of the five employers listed. Webpals shows ₪16k, and Wix ₪12k inside a range of ₪6k to ₪18k.

The middle half of Israeli salaries runs from $41,100 to $89,408 a year. In dollars, only the US band is wider.

Base pay averages ₪14k a month and additional pay ₪2k, with a wide additional pay range of ₪458 to ₪7k.

#4 Germany

German SEO pay is almost all base salary. Additional pay averages €1k a year against a €48k base, the smallest bonus share of the six top 10 countries whose pages report pay per year.

The bonus range on the Glassdoor Germany page runs from €100 to €3k. Mimecast shows a €63k median total pay for the role and Amazon €60k, while Zalando shows €45k and Westwing Group €40k.

Germany and Australia finish $56 apart after conversion, so rates from a different day could swap their order.

#5 Australia

IKEA shows an A$100k median total pay for SEO specialists on the Glassdoor Australia page, the highest of the five employers listed. The other four show A$71k to A$75k: StudioHawk, Online Marketing Gurus, Impressive and King Kong.

Australia's 200 salaries make it the third-largest sample in the top 10, after the US and the UK. The estimate of A$80,000 combines an A$75k average base with A$5k of additional pay.

Additional pay ranges from A$1k to A$10k. The 90th percentile reaches A$124,158, or $88,517 a year.

#6 France

France's 90th percentile is €87,300 a year, or $100,840, the third highest in the top 10 after Israel and the US. The middle half of French salaries sits in a much tighter band, €36,200 to €50,250.

Papernest shows the widest range of the five employers on the Glassdoor France page, €19k to €65k around a €42k median. FABERNOVEL and Meilleurtaux show €40k, Le Wagon €35k and Webedia €32k.

Additional pay averages €4k on a €40k base, the second-largest bonus share after the US among the six countries in the chart above.

Ireland's estimate of €43,000 is €6,425 below Germany's in the same currency, so the gap involves no exchange rate. Base pay averages €40k and additional pay €3k.

Wolfgang Digital shows the highest median of the five employers on the Glassdoor Ireland page, €48k inside a range of €32k to €57k. TikTok follows at €41k and Gambling.com Group at €36k, with Orh Marketing at €29k and Altitude Internet at €27k.

#8 United Kingdom

A London SEO specialist with 4 to 6 years of experience reported £64k to £74k on Glassdoor in July 2026. A Manchester specialist with 1 to 3 years reported £23k to £27k the same month.

The national estimate of £33,439 is closer to the Manchester figure. The UK has 604 salaries behind it, the second-largest sample in the ranking.

Employer medians on the Glassdoor UK page include £31k a year at Sherbet Donkey Media, £30k at Vertical Leap, £26k at Hallam and £24k at MTC Media. Base pay averages £32k and additional pay £2k. The UK finishes $75 above the Netherlands.

#9 Netherlands

Just Eat Takeaway.com shows a €61k median total pay per year for SEO specialists. The other four employers on the Glassdoor Netherlands page report per month: Skydreams €4k, and bol, Dentsu and Happy Horizon €3k.

The national estimate is €3,250 a month from 118 salaries, including €250 of additional pay. Times 12, that is €39,000 a year.

Most Dutch employees are entitled to a holiday allowance of at least 8% of gross annual salary, per the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment's guidance on business.gov.nl. Glassdoor does not say whether its €250 of monthly additional pay includes that allowance.

#10 Sweden

H&M shows SEK 597k a year for SEO specialists on the Glassdoor Sweden page, close to SEK 50,000 a month. The national estimate is SEK 35,000 a month.

IKEA shows SEK 40k a month, Publicis Groupe SEK 35k, Precis Digital SEK 34k and Volvo Group SEK 30k. Glassdoor lists no additional pay for Sweden, so the estimate equals the base pay average.

Swedish pay is the most compressed in the top 10. The middle half runs from SEK 30,000 to SEK 40,000 a month, a band of $12,287 a year after conversion.

Which countries missed the top 10?

Canada is first outside the list at $41,935 a year (CA$58,235), followed by Singapore at $40,924, Hong Kong at $37,051 and New Zealand at $34,632. The UAE page shows AED 5,500 a month from 70 salaries, but the ECB publishes no reference rate for the dirham.

Six more countries had estimates but fewer than 10 salaries each. Counted in, Switzerland would rank first, and Austria, Norway and Finland would push Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands and Sweden out of the list.

Norway shows how thin those samples are: its 25th percentile and its estimate are the same NOK 500,000.
