Freelance SEO Hourly Rates in India [Sep, 2026]

On Truelancer, the Indian freelance marketplace, SEO freelancers set their price in rupees. The median profile we read asks ₹500 an hour, which Truelancer shows a US buyer as $6. At the European Central Bank's rate for September 22, 2026, ₹500 is $5.23.

How much does a freelance SEO specialist charge per hour in India?

A freelance SEO specialist in India lists $10 an hour at the median, from 200 profiles on four marketplaces. A quarter of the profiles ask $7.75 or less and a quarter ask more than $15. The cheapest profile asks $1 an hour and the dearest $100.

The platform matters more than the country average suggests. PeoplePerHour's Indian sellers sit highest, at a $17.62 median, and Truelancer's lowest, at $6.

These are asking rates on public profiles, not invoices. Our global SEO freelancer rates post sets India against Europe, the US and survey data from Ahrefs.

What do Indian SEO freelancers charge on each marketplace?

On Guru, 18 of the 50 Indian SEO profiles list $10 an hour. Across all 200 profiles, 36 ask $10, the most common single rate. The table puts the four live platforms side by side.

Freelancer.com

Freelancer.com's India SEO directory puts high-volume sellers at the top. The first 50 profiles carry between 17 and 7,982 reviews, and 15 of them ask $5 an hour or less.

Volume does not buy a higher price here. The 26 profiles with 1,000 or more reviews ask a median $10, while the 24 with fewer ask $12.50. Six profiles list $2 to $4 an hour with more than 1,000 reviews each.

Guru

Guru's India SEO listing clusters tighter than any other platform: 31 of 50 profiles ask more than $5 and up to $10. Guru also prints each seller's earnings over the past year where there are any. The first two listed, agencies in Noida and New Delhi, show $97,110 and $114,965 at $20 and $10 an hour.

PeoplePerHour

No Indian SEO seller in our PeoplePerHour sample asks under $10, and 8 ask $10 flat. We read the SEO category page by page and kept the India-based sellers: 100 of the first 527 sellers, of which we took the first 50.

PeoplePerHour shows rates converted into the buyer's currency, and many Indian sellers price in pounds. A £20 rate appears as $26.84.

What do SEO freelancers charge on Truelancer?

Truelancer's Indian SEO freelancers ask a median ₹500 an hour, with the middle half between ₹300 and ₹987.50. Its SEO freelancers in India page lists rates in dollars, rounded up from each profile's rupee rate: ₹500 shows as $6 and ₹1,000 as $11.

Truelancer tags each profile with an experience level, which gives the one experience split in our sample:

• Advanced (37 profiles): median ₹500, middle half ₹400 to ₹1,000.
• Intermediate (10 profiles): median ₹400.
• Beginner (2 profiles): too few for a median; they ask ₹150 and ₹200.

The spread is wide. Two profiles ask ₹5,000 an hour, 10 times the median, and two ask ₹70.

Truelancer's fee page charges freelancers a service fee of 8% to 10% of billed work, depending on their membership plan. Buyers pay no Truelancer fee, only card processing: 2.9% plus $0.32 on a US-issued card.

What did Indian SEO profiles list on Upwork?

Upwork's national page for Indian SEO experts featured a median of $40 an hour, four times the live marketplaces in our sample. The February 9, 2025 capture shows 27 profiles, 24 of them between $32 and $100.

The city pages ran lower. The Mumbai page, captured May 21, 2025, had a $20 median and the Bengaluru page, captured September 11, 2024, $25. Both lists include profiles with one or two completed jobs; each of the 27 on the national page had at least 8.

Upwork picks the featured profiles, and all 27 on the national page carried a rating of 4.6 or higher. Treat these as the top of the Indian market on Upwork, not its middle, and note that the captures are 16 to 24 months old.

Are Indian SEO freelancers individuals or agencies?

Most of the top SEO listings on Freelancer.com's India directory are agencies. Freelancer.com's own directory data marks 35 of the first 50 SEO profiles as corporate accounts, against 11 of 50 on Truelancer.

On Guru, names such as Flexsin Technologies, Crest Infosystems and Colan Infotech lead the list. A company account can put a different team member on each job.

What do salaried SEO specialists earn in India?

A salaried SEO specialist in India with 1 to 7 years of experience earns ₹5.2 lakh to ₹5.8 lakh a year, according to AmbitionBox's SEO specialist salaries. The page draws on about 4,200 employee-reported salaries, and AmbitionBox updated it on September 17, 2026.

Salaries are a floor for freelance rates, not a freelance rate. They exclude the unbilled hours, tools and gaps between clients that a freelancer has to cover.

The 6 to 9 year band sits close to double the 1 to 3 year band. On 2,080 hours it works out to ₹317 to ₹351 an hour, still below Truelancer's ₹500 median asking rate.

AmbitionBox shows a band around each average and keeps the exact figure behind a login. Our SEO salaries by country ranking uses Glassdoor for 21 countries. Glassdoor blocked automated reading of its India page, so we left it out.

What does SEO work cost per project in India?

Guru shows a "starting at" price for each seller's lead service, and among the 50 Indian SEO profiles the median is $110. Twelve start at $25, and 7 start at $500 or more.

Services starting at $25 include "White Hat SEO (Link Building)" and "SEO, Google AdWords, SMO, SEO Audit". One Mohali profile sells 50 backlinks a week from $400. Our guide to link building costs prices link work by method.

No source we found publishes Indian freelance rates split by task, such as audits, local SEO or content. A seller with no posted price quotes after reading a brief.

What moves an Indian SEO freelancer's rate?

The platform fee comes out of the listed rate before the money reaches the freelancer. Freelancer.com's fee page takes 10% of each hourly payment from the freelancer and 3% from the client.

Upwork's freelancer service fee ranges from 0% to 15% per contract, and Upwork locks it once the contract starts. Fiverr's earnings page says sellers earn 80% of each order. Our comparison of websites to hire SEO freelancers covers what each site charges the client.
