  13. Southeast Asian SEO tools: frequently asked questions

Khmer, Lao and Burmese are missing from the 51 languages Google Ads lets Keyword Planner target. Vietnamese keeps the Latin alphabet but stacks tone marks on it, and Google Ads treats accents as a close variant of the same keyword.

Thai has its own script, and Google Trends answers a term typed in non-Latin characters with data from the places that use them.

1. Google Keyword Planner

Google Ads Keyword Planner product page with the headline Choose the right keywords and a Start now button

Keyword Planner suits anyone who needs Google's own monthly search estimate for a Vietnamese, Thai or Bahasa keyword before paying for a suite. It costs nothing, but Google's Keyword Planner guide says you must finish account setup with billing information before "Get ideas for new keywords" opens.

Targeting sits in two boxes. The page on refining keyword ideas lets you enter countries, regions and cities, pick a language, and break monthly searches down by location and by device. Ideas can come from a seed keyword or from a URL.

The Google Ads API codes and formats page lists 51 targetable languages, including Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Malay and Filipino.

Khmer, Lao and Burmese are not on the list, so keyword ideas for Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar cannot be filtered to the local language. The tool reports Google searches only; Cốc Cốc runs its own index in Vietnam.

  • Best for: Free Google search estimates by Southeast Asian country or city, split by device.
  • Where it struggles: Accented and unaccented spellings can share a figure, and it offers no Khmer, Lao or Burmese language setting.
  • Price: Free; a Google Ads account with billing details is required.

2. Google Search Console

Google Search Console landing page headline Improve your performance on Google Search with a Start now button

Search Console is for site owners who want to see which Vietnamese, Thai or Bahasa phrasings already bring impressions. Its guide to dimensions and data groupings says the Queries tab holds the search terms that led to your site, and the Countries tab groups data by the country where each search started.

The query table keeps each search as the user typed it, so a page on Vietnamese coffee can show one row for the accented phrase and one for the bare phrase. Pair that with Keyword Planner's shared figure and you can see which spelling to put in a title.

The same guide lists three limits:

  • Anonymized queries: some queries are left out to protect privacy, though chart totals still count them unless a query filter is on.
  • Truncation: Search Console stores and shows only the most important rows, and bulk data exports hold the fullest query list.
  • Branded filter: it splits branded from non-branded queries, has data from March 2025, and does not appear for sites with few impressions.

Query filters ignore letter case. For a site in Thai or Vietnamese, filter by a stem in the local script or spelling, then by country, to find the markets where a page already appears.

Can Search Console show demand for a Thai keyword your site does not rank for?
No. The Performance report covers searches in which your site appeared, so a query with no impressions does not appear.
  • Best for: Seeing which spelling or script of a query earns impressions in each country.
  • Where it struggles: It covers only queries where your site appeared, and anonymized or truncated rows hide part of the long tail.
  • Price: Free.

3. Ahrefs

Ahrefs Our data page with index figures such as 28.7B keywords filtered, 493.9B pages in its index and 217 locations

Ahrefs is a Singapore company: its site footer gives Ahrefs Pte. Ltd. an address at 16 Raffles Quay. It suits teams that want keyword volumes and competitor rankings for several ASEAN markets inside one index.

Its Big Data page counts 28.7 billion filtered keywords across 217 locations. Indonesia has 831 million, Vietnam 743 million, the Philippines 731 million, Malaysia 578 million and Thailand 544 million. The smaller markets are there too: 147 million keywords for Cambodia, 99 million for Myanmar and 6.0 million for Timor-Leste.

A second, smaller index drives the traffic estimates in Site Explorer. It holds 11 million keywords for Indonesia, 5.2 million for Vietnam and 4.6 million for Thailand. The page splits both indexes by location and gives no count by language.

The Ahrefs pricing page prints three core plans on monthly billing:

  • Lite: $129 for 5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 6 months of history and 1,000 credits per user.
  • Standard: $249 adds Content Explorer, unlimited credits and a Translations feature in Keywords Explorer.
  • Advanced: $449 for 5,000 tracked keywords and 5 years of history.

A $29 Starter plan covers basic keyword and competitor research. Ahrefs Free gives website owners limited Site Explorer and Site Audit data on their own site, and the pricing FAQ rules out discounts.

  • Best for: Competitor and keyword research across several ASEAN markets, including Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
  • Where it struggles: Rank Tracker updates weekly on Lite, Standard and Advanced, and Lite caps research at 1,000 credits per user.
  • Price: $129, $249 or $449 a month; Starter $29.

4. Semrush

Semrush Stats and Facts page, as of September 13, 2026, showing 28.9B keywords and 142 geo databases under a header reading An Adobe Company

Semrush's site header reads "An Adobe Company". It fits marketers who already run paid search, content or AI visibility work in Semrush and want Southeast Asian keyword data in the same account.

Its Stats and Facts page counted 28.9 billion keywords and 142 geographic databases on September 13, 2026. Thailand's Keyword Magic Tool database holds more keywords than Vietnam's:

Semrush holds 253 million desktop keywords for Indonesia, 195 million for the Philippines, 120 million for Thailand, 115 million for Vietnam, 104 million for Singapore and 99.1 million for Malaysia

Semrush's list of country databases covers Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, with no Laos or Myanmar. For a missing location, the same article points you to Position Tracking, which reports rankings for any location you choose.

Paid accounts start with 28 original regional databases. The article on viewing all results says reports past the top 10 results ask you to connect any other database; you can add two free, and more go through sales.

The SEO and AI search pricing page starts at $139 a month for 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Starter costs $199, Pro+ costs $299 and adds multi-location and device tracking, and Advanced costs $549 with 5,000 daily keywords.

  • Best for: Teams that want daily rank tracking and Southeast Asian keyword data beside ads and content tools.
  • Where it struggles: Multi-location tracking starts at Pro+, and databases beyond the original 28 need a connection past the top 10 results.
  • Price: $139, $199, $299 or $549 a month; 7-day free trial.

5. SE Ranking

SE Ranking data page headline Data for search and AI visibility that goes beyond the surface with 188 geo databases and 5.5B keywords

SE Ranking lists keyword databases for ten Southeast Asian countries, down to 1.1 million keywords for Brunei. It suits agencies and consultants who track several client sites daily across Southeast Asia and want 2,000 daily keywords on the entry plan.

Its data page counts 5.5 billion keywords in 188 geographic databases. The Philippines leads its Southeast Asian list:

46M
keywords for the Philippines
18M
keywords for Vietnam
18M
keywords for Indonesia
9.9M
keywords for Thailand
SE Ranking keyword databases, September 2026

The Keyword Research overview says SE Ranking bases its monthly search volume on Google Keyword Planner data. A keyword can show 0 when Keyword Planner returns no value for it, and figures can differ from Semrush or other tools.

For Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei, Semrush lists no database for two:

Ahrefs lists 36 million to 147 million keywords for Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei, SE Ranking 1.1 million to 8.6 million, and Semrush has no database for Laos or Myanmar

The SE Ranking pricing page prints two self-serve plans. Core costs $129 a month for 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily and 250,000 audited pages. Growth costs $279 for 30 projects, 5,000 daily keywords and 3 manager seats. The 14-day trial needs no card and tracks up to 750 keywords a day.

  • Best for: Daily rank tracking for many client sites, including sites aimed at Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar.
  • Where it struggles: Volumes follow Keyword Planner data, so a keyword Keyword Planner leaves blank shows 0, and history across a project's lifetime starts at the $279 Growth plan.
  • Price: $129 or $279 a month; 20% off on annual billing.

6. Seotal

Seotal homepage headline Hire Dedicated Freelance SEO Experts with Hire an SEO Expert and Our Services buttons

Seotal is our company, so weigh this entry accordingly. It suits businesses that already pay for the tools above and want a specialist based in the region, writing in Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia or Tagalog, to run them. Seotal matches clients with vetted freelance SEO specialists; it is not software.

Our FAQ page names the tools freelancers work in: Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4 and Looker Studio among them. Licences are either the client's own or passed through with written approval. SEO clients get a live Looker Studio dashboard tied to their Search Console, GA4 and Ahrefs data.

A client sends a brief and receives 3 to 5 vetted profiles within 72 hours, then interviews by video. Vetting includes a written SEO test and a live technical interview with a senior SEO lead, and fewer than 5% of applicants join the active pool.

The pricing page gives monthly benchmark rates for a mid-level SEO expert of $1,000 to $2,200 in Vietnam and $950 to $2,000 in Indonesia. Hub pages cover a freelance SEO specialist in Vietnam and an SEO specialist in Indonesia.

Hourly work costs $15 to $30 with no minimum. A part-time retainer costs $1,000 to $2,000 a month for 60 to 80 hours, with a 3-month minimum and a free replacement in the first 30 days.

  • Best for: Businesses that want Vietnamese or Bahasa keyword research and tracking done by a named specialist.
  • Where it struggles: The pricing page lists no talent pool in Thailand, and tool subscriptions sit outside the rate.
  • Price: $15 to $30 an hour, or $1,000 to $2,000 a month part-time.

7. Keyword Tool

Keyword Tool homepage headline Research Keywords Using Google Autocomplete with a keyword box, a country menu and a language menu

Keyword Tool pulls long-tail ideas straight from Google Autocomplete, and its free version returns up to 750+ suggestions per term without an account. It fits writers who need the phrasing Thai, Vietnamese or Indonesian searchers type, not only the head term.

The Keyword Tool homepage says the tool adds letters and numbers before and after your term, runs each version through Google's search box and collects the predictions for the Google domain and language you pick. The language menu includes Vietnamese, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu and Filipino.

Paid plans add search volume. The Keyword Tool Pro page says Google volume, cost per click and competition come from Google Keyword Planner, and counts 190+ countries, 68,000+ locations and 50+ languages for Google. The same subscription covers 15 other platforms, including YouTube, Amazon, TikTok and Bing.

Monthly billing runs $88 for Starter (50 requests a day and volume for 50,000 keywords a day), $188 for Growth, $388 for Scale and $788 for Agency. Annual billing saves over 20%, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies. Its footer names companies in Sharjah and Hong Kong.

  • Best for: Long-tail and question keywords in Southeast Asian languages, for free, without an account.
  • Where it struggles: Its Google volumes come from Keyword Planner, whose close variants include accents, and the menu has no Khmer, Lao or Burmese.
  • Price: Free for suggestions; $88 to $788 a month for volume data.

8. KWFinder

Mangools KWFinder page headline Find long tail keywords with low SEO difficulty with keyword, location and language boxes

KWFinder, from Mangools, costs $30.50 a month on its cheapest plan, with rank tracking, SERP analysis and backlink data in the same bundle. It suits freelancers and small businesses that want a difficulty score for a keyword in one Southeast Asian city.

The KWFinder page counts about 65,000 supported locations, from countries down to cities and districts. Its language menu lists Filipino, Indonesian, Malay, Thai and Vietnamese next to 38 other languages. Without paying, you get 5 lookups per 24 hours, with 15 related and 5 competitor keywords per lookup.

Each plan also includes site analysis limits and AI Search Watcher PRO with 500 monitored prompts. The Mangools plans page prints monthly prices and daily limits:

  • Basic: $30.50 for 100 keyword research requests per 24 hours and 200 tracked keywords, with no extra seats.
  • Premium: $40.50 for 500 requests, 700 tracked keywords and 3 extra seats.
  • Agency: $70.50 for 1,200 requests, 1,500 tracked keywords and 5 extra seats.

Rank updates run weekly on Basic and Premium and daily on Agency. Annual billing saves about 35%, taking Basic to $226.20 a year, and the FAQ offers a full refund within 48 hours of payment.

  • Best for: Keyword difficulty checks for Southeast Asian cities on a small budget.
  • Where it struggles: It publishes no keyword database size per country, and Basic tracks only 200 keywords, updated weekly.
  • Price: $30.50, $40.50 or $70.50 a month.

Google Trends homepage headline Explore what the world is searching for right now with an Explore search box

Google Trends does not fold spelling variations into a term, so the accented and bare forms of a Vietnamese word each need their own entry. It suits content planners checking when interest in a topic peaks in Indonesia, Vietnam or Thailand before they commit to a publishing date.

Its data FAQ describes a sample of Google searches, each data point divided by total searches for that place and time, then scaled from 0 to 100. Terms with low volume show 0. Trends removes repeat searches by one person over a short period and filters out queries with apostrophes and other special characters.

The help page on comparing terms says the new Explore compares up to 8 groups of up to 50 terms each. The same page says misspellings, synonyms, plurals and singulars stay out as well, and a term typed in non-Latin characters draws data from the places that use those characters.

Topics work the other way. A topic groups terms that share one concept in any language, which suits a brand or product name searched in both English and Bahasa.

  • Best for: Timing content around seasonal peaks in each Southeast Asian country.
  • Where it struggles: It shows a relative index from 0 to 100, not search volume, and low-volume terms read as 0.
  • Price: Free.

10. AccuRanker

AccuRanker pricing page with Professional, Expert and Enterprise plans and a Monthly and Yearly switch

AccuRanker counts a keyword tracked on Google and Bing, on desktop and mobile, as four keywords, which shapes the bill for an account tracking both engines and devices. It fits agencies and in-house teams that need daily rank checks for Bahasa, Thai or Vietnamese keywords in named cities.

AccuRanker's help guide on rank mismatches says most keywords get a Search Locale with no location. Add one, and the location bar accepts any place that exists in Google Maps. The guide to tracking keywords worldwide recommends one domain per country.

Search volume for Google, per the search volume guide, arrives monthly from Keyword Planner as a 12-month average, at country or city level. The same guide says regular volume "often overestimates due to keyword grouping", and offers AI Search Volume as the more precise figure.

The AccuRanker pricing page sits at the top of this price range:

Monthly plan prices run from $30.50 at Mangools to $788 at Keyword Tool and $849 or more at AccuRanker, with SE Ranking, Ahrefs and Semrush starting at $129 to $139

Professional costs $249 a month for 2,000 keywords with daily updates, search intent and Search Console and Analytics links. Expert starts at $849 for 10,000 keywords and adds AI Search Volume and an unlimited read API. Above 25,000 keywords, pricing is on request, and yearly payment takes 10% off.

  • Best for: Daily city-level rank tracking across several Southeast Asian countries.
  • Where it struggles: It publishes no keyword database size for these markets, and each extra engine or device adds to the keyword count.
  • Price: $249 a month for 2,000 keywords; Expert from $849.
