Top 5 Search Engines in Vietnam by Usage (2026)

Vietnam is one of the few countries where a search engine built at home still ranks second to Google. Cốc Cốc sent 7.41% of desktop search referrals in the twelve months to August 2026, more than Bing and Yahoo combined. On phones its share halves, and Bing almost disappears.

#1 Google

Google's share of Vietnamese search referrals has not dropped below 91% in any full year since Statcounter's series began in 2009. Its low was 91.66% in 2015 and its high 96.91% in 2023. In August 2026 it held 94.69%, on Statcounter's search engine data for Vietnam, and 94.25% across the twelve months to August 2026.

The monthly range is narrower than the headlines suggest. Across the 24 months to August 2026, Google's share moved between 92.07% (November 2025) and 96.51% (September 2024). Its dips line up with Cốc Cốc's best months.

The device gap tells you more than the total. Over the twelve months to August 2026, Google took:

Desktop: 88.45%, per Statcounter's desktop series.
Mobile: 96.03%, per Statcounter's mobile series.
Tablet: 94.19%, per Statcounter's tablet series.

In 2015 Google did worse on phones than on desktops, at 89.68% against 92.19%. Yahoo (4.92%) and Bing (4.82%) both had a real mobile share that year. By 2017 Google's mobile share was 97.26%, and it has stayed above 96% in each year since.

Alphabet owns Google, which runs its own index. For SEO in Vietnam, Google Search Console covers the engine that sends more than 9 in 10 search visits. It does not accept IndexNow pings, so new pages reach Google through sitemaps and crawling.

#2 Cốc Cốc

Cốc Cốc is a Vietnamese search engine and browser, launched in 2013, that crawls the web with its own robot, coccocbot. In August 2026 it took 4.47% of search referrals, and 4.55% over the twelve months to August 2026, up from 3.8% in the twelve months before.

Its best month in the last two years was November 2025, at 5.98%. Its weakest was September 2024, at 2.57%.

Desktop is where Cốc Cốc competes. Its yearly desktop share rose from 2.26% in 2015 to a peak of 10.15% in 2021, then fell to 6.56% in 2023. It was 8.97% in 2025 and 7.13% from January to August 2026. Its mobile share climbed from 0.16% in 2016 to 3.48% in 2025.

The browser comes first in the funnel. Statcounter's browser data for Vietnam gives the Cốc Cốc browser 4.22% of all page views in August 2026. On desktop it held 4.74% of browser page views over the twelve months to August 2026, below its 7.41% desktop search share.

The company's own user counts have moved less than its targets. All three figures below are company claims:

28 million users at the end of September 2022, with a goal of 50 million by 2025, in VnExpress's interview with CEO Nguyễn Vũ Anh.
29 million users and 600 million searches a month in May 2023, in Cốc Cốc's AI Chat and AI Search launch release.
30 million users on desktop and mobile, on the Cốc Cốc advertising site, read in September 2026.

On which device does Cốc Cốc hold its largest share of Vietnamese search referrals?

Desktop, with 7.41% over the twelve months to August 2026, against 5.02% on tablets and 3.66% on phones.

#3 Bing

Bing's desktop share in Vietnam more than halved in nine months. It sent 4.39% of desktop search referrals in October 2025 and 1.32% in July 2026, then 1.58% in August. Across all devices Bing held 0.47% in August 2026 and 0.63% over the twelve months to August 2026.

Its full year 2025 was its best on desktop since Statcounter's series began, at 3.78%. The 2026 figure so far is 1.95%.

Bing has almost no presence on Vietnamese phones: 0.09% of mobile referrals over the twelve months to August 2026, and 0.41% on tablets. Microsoft's Edge browser had 2.72% of desktop page views in the same period, close to Bing's 2.40% desktop search share.

Microsoft owns and runs Bing's index. That index also supplies much of Yahoo's and DuckDuckGo's results, so it reaches three of the top five engines. Bing Webmaster Tools is the place to submit sitemaps and check crawl errors. Bing also accepts IndexNow, a protocol that tells search engines a URL has changed; Yandex and Naver take the same pings. Google and Cốc Cốc do not.

#4 Yahoo

Yahoo took 0.28% of Vietnamese search referrals in August 2026 and 0.44% over the twelve months to August 2026. On mobile it edged past Bing in that period, 0.10% to 0.09%.

The results behind the brand come mostly from Microsoft. Yahoo's help page on ranking says its organic listings "are powered in part by Bing". Its site submission page sends site owners to Bing Webmaster Tools. There is no separate Yahoo index to optimise for.

Yahoo's share is a desktop share. It held 1.58% of desktop referrals over the twelve months to August 2026, against 0.21% on tablets. Its desktop share was 2.94% in both 2024 and 2025 and dropped to 1.33% for January to August 2026, moving with Bing's.

Seventeen years ago, Yahoo was the second engine in Vietnam. In 2009 it had 3.05% of all referrals, ahead of Bing's 1.57%. In 2015 it still had 4.92% of mobile referrals.

#5 DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo took 0.04% of Vietnamese search referrals in August 2026 and 0.07% over the twelve months to August 2026. That keeps it ahead of Yandex (0.03%) for fifth place, and ahead of Naver and Baidu at 0.01% each in August 2026.

Its share is almost flat across devices: 0.06% on desktop, 0.07% on mobile and 0.08% on tablets over the same twelve months. No other engine in the top five is as even.

DuckDuckGo says it runs its own crawler, DuckDuckBot, but its help page on result sources says traditional links come "largely" from Bing. Work done for Bing covers DuckDuckGo too.

How has Vietnam's search ranking changed since 2009?

Google has held first place in every year since 2009, so the ranking has changed only in second place. Yahoo held it in 2009 and Bing in 2010, with 3.19%. Cốc Cốc first registered in Statcounter's data in 2015 and has been second in every year since 2016.

Vietnam's second search engine, 2009 to 2026

The 2022 to 2023 drop took Cốc Cốc's share from 5.17% in 2021 to 2.43% two years later, and Google rose to 96.91% over the same period. By 2025 Cốc Cốc had recovered to 4.18%.

Does Cloudflare Radar agree with Statcounter?

Cloudflare Radar gives the same top four for 2025, with different weights. Cloudflare counts search engine referrals to the sites on its network, using the Referer header. Its 2025 Year in Review for Vietnam shows:

Both sets cover 2025. They disagree most on desktop, where Cloudflare has Google at 77.8% and Statcounter at 84.08%. The two samples differ. Statcounter's covers sites running its code, and Cloudflare's covers sites behind its network.

Cloudflare's list also shows OpenAI, at 0.1% of all 2025 search referrals and 0.9% on desktop. On mobile, Cloudflare had Google at 97.2% and Cốc Cốc at 2.5%.

Do AI Overviews and AI Mode work in Vietnamese?

Yes. Google's AI Overviews help page lists Vietnamese among supported languages and Vietnam among locations. The AI Mode help page lists both as well.

AI Mode arrived in two steps. It opened in Vietnam in August 2025, but VietNamNet reported that users had to type their questions in English. Vietnamese support began on October 8, 2025.

Cốc Cốc moved earlier. In May 2023 it launched AI Chat and AI Search in beta, built on GPT 3.5 and data from Cốc Cốc Search, in the launch release linked above.

Are AI chatbots taking search traffic in Vietnam?

AI chatbots send a small stream of visits next to search engines, and Statcounter tracks them in a separate series. Within that series, ChatGPT sent 78.77% of AI chatbot referrals in Vietnam over the twelve months to August 2026, per Statcounter's AI chatbot data. Gemini followed with 13.79%, then Perplexity with 3.95%.

These shares split AI chatbot referrals among themselves. They say nothing about how big that stream is next to Google's. Cloudflare's 2025 list, which puts OpenAI at 0.1% of search referrals, is one view of both on a single scale. Do Naver, Baidu or Yandex have users in Vietnam?

Almost none show up. In August 2026 Statcounter gave Yandex 0.02%, and Naver and Baidu 0.01% each, of Vietnamese search referrals.
