On Klaviyo, automated flows made up 5.3% of email sends in 2026 and about 41% of email revenue. The person who builds those welcome, cart and browse flows is the one you are pricing. Salary sites still disagree on what that person costs, because some count employee reports and others count job ads.
How much does an email marketing specialist make in the US?
ZipRecruiter's 90th percentile for the title reaches $111,000, while PayScale's stops at $80,000. PayScale's email marketing specialist page reports an average of $60,410 from 260 salary profiles, last updated June 1, 2026. ZipRecruiter reports $69,583 as of September 26, 2026, based on job ads rather than employee reports.
PayScale's 10th percentile sits at $45,000. ZipRecruiter's middle half runs from $54,500 to $78,000.

PayScale lists a bonus of $500 to $6,000 and profit sharing of $751 to $2,000 a year for US email marketing specialists.
Email marketing specialist salary by country
Converted to dollars, Australia's Glassdoor average lands close to PayScale's US figure, while the UK and Canada land near $40,000. The chart uses one source per country: PayScale for the US and Glassdoor for the rest, converted at European Central Bank reference rates for September 25, 2026.

The table keeps each figure in its own currency, with the sample behind it. The US dollar column is a conversion, not a reported number.
| Country | Source and sample | Average per year | Middle half (25th to 75th) | In US dollars |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Glassdoor UK, 5 salaries | £30,231 | £24,325 to £37,570 | $40,063 |
| Canada | Glassdoor Canada, 88 salaries | C$56,272 | C$48,087 to C$65,850 | $39,789 |
| Australia | Glassdoor Australia, 18 salaries | A$84,500 | A$76,000 to A$102,500 | $59,405 |
| India | Glassdoor India, 144 salaries | ₹5,27,500 | ₹3,62,250 to ₹7,00,000 | $5,505 |
Glassdoor pages were read on September 26, 2026. Five UK salaries is a thin base, so treat the UK row as a rough guide.
Philippines
JobStreet puts the average monthly salary for email marketing specialist jobs in the Philippines at ₱40,000 to ₱50,000. JobStreet refreshed its salary page for the role on September 1, 2026. At ECB rates, that range converts to about $640 to $800 a month.
JobStreet's current job ads show who is hiring. Listings named Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and several served Australian or US clients, some on night or AU shifts. For wider context on the market, see our Philippines digital marketing statistics.
Why the two salary sites disagree
PayScale and Glassdoor gave different averages in all three Western markets where both publish one. PayScale was higher in Canada; Glassdoor was higher in Australia and the UK.

The dates explain part of the gap. PayScale's Australia page rests on 19 profiles last updated in December 2022. Its UK page has 8 profiles from April 2026, and its Canada page has 30 from June 2025.
Pay by experience level
An entry-level US email marketing specialist with under a year of experience averages $45,738 in total pay on PayScale, based on 16 salaries. Early-career staff with 1 to 4 years average $57,279. PayScale puts mid-career pay 4% above the average and late-career pay 18% above it.
Canada shows almost no step between the two bands. India shows the biggest one. The PayScale India page was last updated in July 2025.
Related titles land close by. Glassdoor India lists email marketing managers at about ₹6 lakh a year, analysts at about ₹4 lakh and coordinators at about ₹7 lakh. Benchmark an offer on the job description, not only the title.
Freelance email marketing rates
Freelance email marketing jobs on ZipRecruiter advertised $16 to $35 an hour on September 26, 2026. The top listing that day was a temporary remote email marketing specialist role at $30 to $45 an hour. ZipRecruiter's broader email marketing pay page works out to $24.50 an hour.
Those are job-ad rates, which lean toward junior and part-time work. Specialists who own a whole program price by the project or the month.
Mailchimp's own partner network shows how wide the range gets. Mailchimp says it has over 1,000 partners in 40 countries, all freelancers or independent agencies, and each one sets its own rates. It tells buyers to expect a statement of work covering scope, budget, timeline and deliverables.
Scope drives the price more than the hourly rate. A campaign build is one template and one send. An ESP migration covers lists, segments, templates, flows and domain authentication, and deliverability suffers if the specialist skips any part.

What does an email marketing specialist do?
An email marketing specialist plans, builds, sends and measures a company's marketing email. The job covers the email platform (ESP), the list, the automated flows, deliverability, the copy and the reporting.
The work that earns the most is automation. Klaviyo's 2026 email benchmarks show flows with a 5.58% click rate against 1.69% for campaigns.

About 48% of flow revenue came from new buyers, against 16% for campaigns. Klaviyo names welcome, browse and abandonment flows as the ones that drive first purchases.
Klaviyo reports that the top 10% of email flows earn up to $7.79 in revenue per recipient, with click rates over 10%.
Emails with AI product recommendations averaged a 3.75% click rate, and 8.79% for top performers. A specialist who can set up that kind of personalization is worth more than one who only schedules newsletters.
The task list on a typical job ad looks like this:
- ESP setup: account, sending domain, forms and integrations with the store or CRM.
- Segmentation: lists split by behavior, purchase history and engagement.
- Automation flows: welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase and win-back.
- Deliverability: SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, list hygiene and spam rate checks.
- Copy and A/B tests: subject lines, content and send times.
- Reporting: opens, clicks, revenue per recipient and unsubscribes.
Plan limits shape the job. On Mailchimp's pricing page, Essentials caps automation flows at 4 steps, while Standard allows up to 200 flows. Klaviyo's free plan stops at 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month.
Speed has gone up. In the Litmus State of Email 2026 survey of 500 marketers, most teams now ship an email within days.

Faster production means a specialist spends more of the week on testing, segments and flows, and less on building one newsletter.
Deliverability rules every specialist must meet
Since 2024, Gmail has required anyone sending 5,000 or more messages a day to its users to authenticate with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Google's sender guidelines also require one-click unsubscribe for marketing mail at that volume. Google asks all senders to keep spam rates below 0.10% and to stay under 0.30%.

Yahoo enforces the same core rules and adds a deadline: bulk senders must honor unsubscribes within 2 days. It also asks for DKIM keys of at least 1,024 bits.
- 1Publish SPFList the servers allowed to send for your domain.
- 2Sign with DKIMYahoo asks for a key of at least 1,024 bits.
- 3Publish DMARCp=none is accepted; a rua tag gets you reports.
- 4Add one-click unsubscribeSend the List-Unsubscribe-Post header.
- 5Watch spam rateCheck Google Postmaster Tools every week.
US law sets its own rules. The FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide requires a working opt-out, a physical address and honest subject lines. Senders have 10 business days to honor an opt-out.
In-house hire or freelance specialist?
A full-time hire costs more than the salary. The BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release shows benefits made up 30.0% of what private US employers spent on pay and benefits in June 2026.
- US average $60,410 to $69,583 a year
- Benefits add to the wage
- Fixed 40 hours a week
- Knows your product from inside
- Paid per hour, project or month
- No benefits on your payroll
- Hours match the send calendar
- Brings patterns from other accounts
The deciding question is hours. A program with daily sends across several brands can fill a week. A store running a handful of flows and a weekly campaign often cannot. Our SEO outsourcing cost guide walks through the same trade-off for search work.
Hire an email marketing specialist through Seotal
Seotal is not an agency. It matches you with a vetted freelance marketing specialist from Asia who works on your account. Rates run $15 to $30 an hour with no minimum, or a part-time retainer of $1,000 to $2,000 a month for 60 to 80 hours, with a 3-month minimum.
There are no platform fees, and we replace a match in the first 30 days if it is not working.
I would start with domain authentication and the welcome and cart flows, then add campaigns. Browse email marketing specialists in the Philippines or India, check pricing, or see how it works.
Frequently asked questions
Does an email marketing specialist need to code HTML?
Yes, for teams with coded templates. Mailchimp's Essentials plan lets you create custom-coded templates but you must upgrade to Standard to send them, so teams with coded templates need someone who can edit the HTML.
Is email marketing a good career in 2026?
The BLS projects 7% growth from 2025 to 2035 for the broader marketing specialist group, which the BLS calls much faster than the average for all occupations. It expects about 82,000 openings a year.
